The Mini Drop Tower method is used to create weightlessness conditions. In the experiments the module is dropped from a balcony. At the end of the fall a shock-absorber is used to stop the run.The drop time is very short. From a height of 5 meters, the free fall is about a second, corresponding to twenty frames recorded by the video camera.
The launch module is a strong transparent plastic box, fitted with a small wireless battery-powered video camera. A radio receiver recalls the signals coming from the video camera and it sends them to an AD converter connected to a computer. In this way it is possible to record and see what happens inside the module during free fall.
Much like Einstein famous mind experiment regarding the lift in free fall, the on board video camera works as an observer in the moving frame.
